I started embroidering a new letter of the sea after a long time. I felt like handling the shell sampler and it was necessary to record some stages for the course of the sea, which were not included in the landscapes on the horizon.
I returned to the waves and retraced my steps from almost six years ago: months to give shape to the idea, months to embroider the letters, months to arrive at the final draft of A sea to stitch, the creature I feel most connected to. It seems like yesterday, it seems like a century ago. A past life. My third life ago…
If I summarise the fundamental stages of my life, which have overturned my habits and my points of view. Embroidery has been one of the few constants that have accompanied me throughout my lives, and in this fourth one, now as I write, a thought comes to mind.
What if we embroider because…
Only there, in the space defined by the frame or the selvedges, are we the sole arbiters of the game?
When I embroider, everything depends on me. I decide what to embroider, why, how, where and when.
If I make a mistake, I undo it and correct it.
I have everything under control.
