My first Easter project is somewhat reminiscent of Christmas decorations, assembled with a cardboard core.

I wanted to start introducing a few bits of more advanced technique into the embroideries that include our now reassuring basic stitches. I confess to you that my short- to long-term dream is to design embroideries that have a bit of everything and also that certain techniques scare or block us less and less.

The egg base is embroidered in Long and short stitch, with four shades. I started from the festooned border, where the roses are, bringing the stitches to converge downwards.

Long and short stitch can be embroidered in many ways, by converging or diverging the stitches, by inserting the needle between one stitch and another, or by pinching stitches already made from right or back. There is no one better than the other, if not for matters of tradition or personal familiarity. I have seen beautiful embroideries made with all methods. For some reason, my fingers were in tune with the method that pinches the stitches made from underneath and brings them together.

Then I embroidered bullion stitch roses on it.

But wasting time on Pinterest, flipping through Easter images, all these egg-laden baskets made my pencils quiver….
